Where Music Meets Culture: Summer in Columbia, MD

In Howard County, summer comes with its own soundtrack. At the center is Merriweather Post Pavilion, an iconic open-air venue where rising stars light up the stage and music legends have left their mark. With lawn seating under the stars, covered pavilions, and a history steeped in sound, Merriweather captures that effortlessly hip vibe.

But the rhythm doesn’t stop at the gates. Just steps away, Columbia’s event scene buzzes with art, sound and summer spirit. In the Merriweather District, AMPed in the Park brings fresh local artists to an urban green space, while Lakefront Live turns sunset into a show complete with serene views and zero cover charge.

This season, Visit Howard County takes you on a tour of it all, from community concerts to cultural festivals and hidden-gem hangouts. Just minutes from Baltimore and D.C., you’ll find the perfect mixture of cultural depth and laid-back charm, right in the heart of Maryland.

Lakefront Live Concerts

Presented by Columbia Association, Lakefront Live turns summer evenings into unforgettable experiences with free concerts produced by Merriweather Arts and Culture Center (MACC). Bring a blanket and join the community in downtown Columbia, where this music series beckons with unbeatable waterfront vibes.

Throughout the summer, the Columbia Lakefront becomes a hub for free fun, featuring community dance lessons and outdoor movie nights under the stars. From a one-night show to a full weekend of fun, Lakefront Live is the perfect compliment to your music-filled itinerary.

AMPed in the Park Concert Series at Color Burst Park

AMPed in the Park hits all the right notes in Color Burst Park, where murals meet music in a city founded on bold ideas. Amid the vibrant canvas of the Merriweather District, this free concert series blends local charm with global sounds, all set against a backdrop of restaurants for all occasions. Settle into a lawn chair while the kids dash through the splash pad with ice cream in hand, or kick back with someone special and soak in the creative vibes.

On select Thursdays this summer, each moment  – a family on a blanket, a couple dancing to the beat – adds to the larger rhythm, as visitors and neighbors come together under the open sky.
